Less is more: New Year's Resolutions 2019

We've started off 2019 in typical exciting Denker fashion, with 12 hours spent drywalling our new closet and bathroom - can you say dusty? - and a trip to the pediatrician for a fresh 2019 pink eye prescription for Josh.

Nothing like starting off the New Year with gloopy eye boogers.

That said, I'm always grateful for a chance to look at the year ahead and make some resolutions. No, I won't be promising to spin 4 days a week, do yoga 2 days a week, stop online shopping and stop eating sugar like some anonymous woman on my Facebook feed ... but I do have some thoughts for the year ahead.

2018 was wild and wonderful, but it also felt like a planting year: planting seeds of new pastoral ministry in Minneapolis, seeds of new school for Jake and Josh, potty training seeds, home improvement seeds, and - perhaps most awesomely - author seeds for my first-ever book!

I'm hoping 2019 involves some watering and also harvesting of the seeds we have planted. Joy and comfort for Josh and Jake at school. God willing, a second toilet and shower for our house by spring, less time spent doing yard work, and - God willing again - lots of fun promoting Red State Christians and making it available to readers everywhere, with hopes the Spirit will work through my book to promote dialogue, understanding, and a way for America to move forward.

Without any further pontificating, here are my Less is More Resolutions for 2019

Less stress -- More sleep
Less pink eye -- More playdates
Less worrying -- More writing
Less anxiety -- More prayer
Less self-doubt -- More self-assurance
Less yelling -- More laughing
Less phone time -- More Kindle time
Less swearing -- More listening
Less shopping -- More deep breathing
Less cleaning -- More playing
Less tension -- More tennis
Less laying in bed playing on the phone -- More playing on the court shooting baskets
Less scrolling News Feed -- More planning girls night out
Less trying to be perfect parents -- More making family friends
Less chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels from Trader Joe's -- Oh, who am I kidding?

You heard it here first. 2019 is going to be a great year. I can't wait for what's ahead.
